The stage is the only place I have ever wanted to be.
After performing in several theatre productions in Chicago, my most recent venture has added another title to my list: playwright.
After years of attending the William Inge Theatre Festival and meeting many of our country’s greatest playwrights, it became obvious that there was a fit for me amongst them.
All the pieces came together when I met my co-writer for Resurfacing in 2009. Often in life, it takes more than one person to carry out a new vision; it takes the collaboration of imaginative people with the same work ethic. This truth helped to bring the idea for Resurfacing to fruition.
With that said, it’s been my great pleasure to learn the principles of juggling the roles of actor, playwright, and producer. And the adventure continues still.
YOU & ME PRODUCTIONS
You & Me Productions is a multi-faceted production company in Chicago. Since I founded the company in 2011, You & Me has been dedicated to providing support and opportunities for artistic expression.
It began with my first world premiere play, Resurfacing, which I self-produced and co-wrote with Emily Vajda in 2011. Stoop Time was the second world premiere to launch under this umbrella.
You & Me will continue on as long as there are artists who believe in imagination and have the courage to share their artistry with the world.
REVIEWS FOR ``RESURFACING``
Joni, just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed Resurfacing! Wow! I loved the play — the dialogue was natural, realistic and compelling. What a heartfelt story! As for the performances, I was invested in the characters, emotionally involved and eager to watch what happened next. Bravo all around, Joni!
It was intense! I realized how intense it was when I got back to my car and only an hour had passed. I couldn’t believe it. It felt as if it had been at least three hours. It is definitely a present-moment production! It was raw! If I would have gone earlier in its run, I would have gone to see it again, maybe even two more times! It was fantastic!…You, as the protective matriarchial figure, were a very pinnacle part in the outcome of the situation. You are just wonderful, and you played your part to the utmost!
